The Provincial Government of Pangasinan has distributed anew P5,000 financial assistance each to displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Sison on February 18.
Twenty-five displaced OFWs in Sison were the beneficiaries of the Tulong Pangkabuhyan sa OFW Project, a special livelihood and training project of the province for qualified displaced OFWs.
The said program, administered by the Provincial Employment Service Office (PESO), is also a component activity of the Abig Pangasinan recovery program initiated by Governor Amado I. Espino III which intends to uplift the lives of Pangasinenses in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.
Fifth District Board Member Rosary Gracia Perez-Tababa, who led the brief awarding ceremony, stated that the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project program is slated to engage displaced OFWs in Pangasinan in livelihood ventures by providing them start-up capital.
“Dahil po sa programang Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW ng provincial government, sa pamumuno at arkitekto ang ating Governor Amado I. Espino III, in a way nadadama ng ating mga OFWs ang panimulang pagbangon,” said BM Tababa.
The board member also noted that engaging OFWs in entrepreneurship also assures their safety and security during this health emergency along with their family members: “Maganda rin ito dahil alam natin na ligtas sila at kasama nila ang kanilang mga pamilya.”
The beneficiaries of the financial assistance are selected by migrant desk officers of every local government unit in the province based on the following criteria: cause of repatriation, number of months/years OFW worked abroad, and economic situation.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa programang ito dahil kahit papaano ay nabigyan kami ng konting tulong para sa aming pamilya lalong-lalo na sa akin na isang single parent at nawalan ng trabaho dahil sa pandemic na ito,” said Crisanto Pamonilo who is one of the 25 beneficiaries.
Also present during the program were LGU-Sison Mayor Danilo Uy, Sangguniang Bayan members Nora Ventura, Dondon Tayag, Samson Murao at Sison LIGA ng mga Barangay President Carlito Queriones, LGU-Sison Migrant Desk Officer Joy Aurora Julaton and PESO Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Richelle Raguindin.
