Prov’l Gov’t sends off 202 delegates to Batang Pinoy Nat’l Championships 2019

The Provincial Government of Pangasinan sent off 202 delegates of Team Pangasinan who will compete in the Batang Pinoy National Championships 2019 in Puerto Princesa.

Pangasinan Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) Executive Director Modesto M. Operania who ably represented Governor Amado I. Espino III, wished all the top-caliber athletes for safe travel and to bring home medals as they represent the province once again in a national sports competition.

In his message during the brief send-off ceremony on August 16 at the Narciso Ramos Restaurant, Operania assured all athletes all out support of the provincial government made evident with the various sports development thrusts administered by the PSDMC.

“Si Governor Espino ang nagpaigting at nagpalakas ng mga programang pampalakasan dito sa lalawigan ng Pangasinan,” he said noting that the creation of the PSDMC further proves administration’s faithful backing in the sports sector.

The executive director, on the other hand, urged all athletes to value three things all throughout the championships – respect, discipline, and honor.

Team Pangasinan, which is composed of 138 athletes, 49 coaches and 19 delegation officials, will field other local government units (LGUs) in the week-long national championships in Puerto Princesa on August 25-31.

The total number of athletes per event who will participate in the national competition are as follows: archery-5, arnis-5, athletics-19, basketball (girls)-12, boxing-2, karatedo-5, sepak takraw-5, swimming-13, taekwondo-9, tennis (lawn)-8, beach volleyball (boys)-2, cycling-16, triathlon-9, wrestling-15 and wushu-9.

Prior the send-off, athletes endured unyielding training and experience tune-up games to further test their skills and agility through the in-house training of the provincial government held at the NRSCC from August 4 to 15.

The delegates of Team Pangasinan were medalists in the recently-concluded Batang Pinoy Luzon Qualifying Leg held in Isabela on March 17-23 where the delegation harvested 23 gold, 24 silver and 26 bronze medals.

A constant top-performing contingent in national sports competitions, Team Pangasinan ranked 5th in the previous Batang Pinoy National Championships outshining 100 LGUs by clinching a total of 71 medals made up of 24 gold, 23 silver and 24 bronze medals).

Batang Pinoy is a grassroots-based sports activity of the Philippine Sports Commission which aims to expand the base in the selection of potential athletes for national and international sports competitions.
