This was stated by Pangasinan Migration and Development Council Chairperson Board Member Margielou Orange Humilde-Verzosa who represented Governor Amado I. Espino III during the staging of the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Project in Alaminos City on March 24.
A component of Governor Espino’s Abig Pangasinan recovery program, the Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project is a special livelihood and training program for qualified OFWs who are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through the program, displaced OFWs received P5,000 financial assistance that will be used as their initial capital to help them engage in livelihood and small businesses.
The Board Member from the 1st District also bared that the Provincial Government of Pangasinan allotted approximately P12 million for the project.
The Tulong Pangkabuhayan sa OFW Project recognizes the significant contributions of the OFW sector to the economy which is why the Provincial Government deemed it appropriate to assist the sector.
The OFWs who are evaluated by local migrant desk officers and family organization are chosen based on the following: 1) cause of repatriation, 2) number of months or years the OFW worked abroad, 3) economic situation of the displaced OFW.
Beneficiaries of the program thanked Governor Espino and the provincial government of Pangasinan for their efforts in providing adequate projects for their sector.
As of press time, the program has visited 14 LGUs in the province including: Agno, Alcala, Balungao, Mangaldan, Natividad, Sta. Barbara, Infanta, Sison, Aguilar, Binmaley, Anda, Sta. Maria, Malasiqui, and Alaminos City.
