Lingayen, Pangasinan – Farmers and Irrigators Association and Cooperatives in Pangasinan from tobacco-growing localities received farm machineries from the provincial government as part of its farm mechanization program.
Governor Amado I. Espino III on July 22 at the Narciso Ramos Sport and Civic Center led provincial officials in awarding some 87 units of hand tractors, 57 units of shallow tube wells with complete implements, fishery paraphernalia, fingerlings, and seedlings to farmers and fisherfolks.
“Hinihiling po namin sa inyo na galingan niyo pa po dahil mas lalo namin kayong kailangan at upang magkaroon po kayo ng kakayahan na matulungan sa hanapbuhay ang ating mga kababayan,” urged Governor Espino to the farmers and fisherfolks.
“Nandito po ang Provincial government na tumutulong kasama ang mga opisyal at iba’t-ibang department na kaisa sa programang ito,” Governor Espino said.
The province earmarked P15, 660,395 million and P1,995,000 million for hand tractors and shallow tube well, respectively, sourced out from the provincial share of the 2016 collection of burley and native tobacco excise tax.
Each hand tractor distributed has supporting farm implements to include: 1 Unit TF 90 Yanmar 9 Hp, 1 Unit Chassis/Transmission with complete accessories (Paddy cage wheel/Pheumatic tires), 1 Unit 2 bottom disc plow and disc guide, 1 Unit Comb Harrow frame assembly, 1 Unit ride-on floater, 1 Unit trailer, and 1 pack tools (3 pcs. open wrenches, 1 adjustable wrench and operator’s manual.
Likewise, the shallow tube well distributed has supporting farm implements to include: 1 Unit Ichiban 7 Hp diesel engine air colled couple with 3” dia, 2 roll duct hoe 3” dia. X 100m./roll, and 1 unit suction hose 3” dia.x 20 ft.
In addition, fisherfolks also received fishery paraphernalia which include: 940 unit gill nets, 7 units of seine net, 12 units cast nets, and 1 unit screen net for alamang.
400, 000 pieces of Tilapia fingerlings were also given to 175 fishpond operators in 13 municipalities, and 45, 454 pieces seedling propagated at the Provincial Government’s nurseries in Sta. Barbara, San Quintin, Dasol, Mangatarem, and Lingayen were also distributed to the farmers.
“Tulong po ito ng gobyerno para umangat ang ating kabuhayan kaya’t wala po kayong babayaran. Ang counterpart niyo lamang ay management, operation, at maintenance,” said Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya as a reminder to maintain the machinery.
Based on the data from the Provincial Agriculture Office, the 87 units of hand tractors with complete implements were turned over to 87 Irrigators Association and Cooperatives in 20 municipalities to benefit 2,175 farmers, who till an approximate farm land of 3,654 hectares.
Moreover, the shallow tube well with complete implements were turned over to 57 Irrigator Association and Cooperative in 16 municipalities to benefit 168 farmers, who till an approximate farm land of 336 hectares.
Recipients farmers and irrigators associations are from: 3rd District (Bayambang, Malasiqui, Mapandan, Sta. Barbara), 4th District (Manaoag, Mangaldan, San Jacinto, San Fabian), and 5th District (Alcala, Bautista, Binalonan, Laoac, Sto. Tomas, Villasis) of Pangasinan as they are the localities which produce tobacco.
“Kapag maganda ang ani ay nakatutulong ito sa pang araw-araw na pangangailangan at naipapamahagi natin ito sa kababayan kaya’t malaking tulong ang programang pinapamahagi ni Gov. Espino sa aming mga magsasaka dahil kailangan namin ito,” said Bernado Agustin, President of the Primicias Masipag Farmers Association.
Assisting Governor Espino during the awarding program were: Board Member Liberato Z. Villegas, Provincial Agriculturist Dalisay Moya, and Assistant Provincial Agriculturist Nestor Batalla. (Diane A. Tinambacan)
