PHO eyes end of pandemic in 2022 thru intensified vaccination in P’sinan

December 22, 2021

This was bared by Provincial Health Officer Anna Maria Teresa De Guzman in an interview on December 20 highlighting the decrease of COVID-19 cases in the province posting only an average of 4 daily confirmed cases from December 14 to 19.

“Patuloy ang panawagan ng butihing Gobernador Amado Pogi I. Espino III na maging vigilant sa pagbabantay ng mga kaso natin ng COVID sa probinsya natin,” said Dr. De Guzman.

According to Dr. De Guzman, the decrease of COVID-19 cases is tied-up with the intensified vaccination roll-out across the province and the heightened compliance of Pangasinenses in the health and safety protocols implemented in Pangasinan.

The Provincial Government sustains the unhampered vaccination roll-out in Pangasinan including setting up of vaccination centers and reaching far-flung barangays through the mobile vaccination teams.

As of December 19, the Provincial Health Office in partnership with the different local government units have inoculated a total of 76.83% of the total eligible population or 1,689,265 for the total first dose and 1,122,330 or 51.05% of the eligible population in Pangasinan are now fully-vaccinated in the province.

“Isinusulong nga po ng ating gobernador na talagang mas mapalawak ang ating mabakunahan na mga target at eligible population sa Pangasinan dahil ang bakunado ay protektado,” said Dr. De Guzman stating that the Provincial Government have also partnered with the Department of Health and private sectors to assure the continuous supply of vaccine and other logistics for the vaccination roll-out in Pangasinan.

In line with this, the Provincial Health Office started the administering of COVID-19 booster shots since early December for frontline health workers.

The Provincial Health Officer also mentioned that that achieving herd immunity is important to end the pandemic.

The Provincial Government reminds Pangasinenses not to be complacent despite the decrease of COVID-19 cases in the province, especially with the threat of the new variant.

Meanwhile, even with the COVID-19 pandemic, the Provincial Health Office assures to balance health care services to include non-COVID cases such as: dengue, rabies, gastro-enteritis, diabetes and hypertension.

The PHO will also continue the Abig Laman ed Barangay Kalusugan Karaban which is an integral part of the Abig Pangasinan that brings free medical services closer to Pangasinenses.

For this year, the Abig Laman ed Barangay has served 483 barangays which offered the following services: 21,994 medical consultations; 9,483 laboratory examinations; 975 skin disease consultations; 2,101 mobile chest x-ray; and 2,536 ECG tests.

Other health programs will also be implemented to assure the quality health of every Pangasinenses in the province.

“Samahan natin ang ating butihing Gobernador, Governor Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III, na patuloy na isinusulong ang ating probinsya upang maging tahanan ng ligtas at malulusog na Pangasinense,” said Dr. De Guzman.
