The provincial government led by Gov. Amado I. Espino III welcomed some 465 civil engineers who participated in the 19th Region 1 Technical Conference held on September 6 and 7 at the Sison Auditorium.
Organized by the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. (PICE), the participants came from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan.
Provincial Engineer Antonietta Delos Santos who represented the governor, thanked the participants for coming to Pangasinan and commended the sector for its contribution in terms of infrastructure development.
In commending the PICE, Engr. Delos Santos noted that the two-day event proves the effort of the civil engineers to level up their profession and become integral part of nation-building through modern technology as reflected in the conference theme:“Empowering Civil Engineers Towards Building Better Tomorrow Through Advanced and Digital Technology.”
Lingayen Mayor Leopoldo N. Bataoil, on the other hand, expressed gratitude to the organization for choosing Pangasinan notably the capital town as the venue of their two-day conference.
In his message during the opening program, Mayor Bataoil took pride in presenting some of the infrastructure projects which he and the Espino administration initiated since 2019 to include the Lingayen Gulf Baywalk as well as the amusement park which will soon be established.
Highlights of the conference include sessions of various topics such as: construction project monitoring and evaluation; managing disaster wastes in the Philippines; pre-earthquake seismic vulnerability assessment of existing buildings; sustainable water resource development, river basin approach; gender and development; bi-directional static pile load testing; PICE disaster management program (overview of risk reduction management and PDMP organization); introduction to disaster and basic individual disaster preparedness; and rapid post disaster safety inspection of buildings.
Engr. Erdsan Rene S. Suero who is the ASEAN Engineering national president served as the keynote speaker. (Ruby R. Bernardino)
