In line with the Pagalaw tan Olopan ed Gobyerno Itanduro (POGI) Sports fest, the provincial government held the annual shootfest on November 29 at the PNP Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPO) Firing Range.
“Be safe, be competitive, and learn something. Ito ay isa sa mga activities na tayo ay magkikita-kita, ilalabas ang ating kagalingan, camaraderie, friendship, at bonding,” said Governor Amado I. Espino III as he encouraged the players to further develop their sense of sportsmanship through the event.
The shoot fest aims to promote responsible gun ownership and safe shooting behavior of the participants.
Governor Espino highlighted that the provincial government is eyeing to hold a province-wide shootfest to accommodate all shooting enthusiasts in the province. This competition will also be a part of the annual celebration of Pistay Dayat.
“After that, magkakaroon tayo ng national competition. Tayo ang mag-host dito sa probinsya,” Governor Espino said as he bared his plans for the feature sport.
Forty-three provincial government employees from the different POGI Sports fest teams participated in the shootfest.
Pangasinan Provincial Hospital Chief Aurelio Carino was one of the shooters for Team Benchmarks. Sangguniang Panlalawigan Secretary Verna Nava-Perez represented Team Legislators while Provincial Accountant Arturo Soriano was among the representatives of Team Financiers.
The shoot fest is divided into six stages having eight categories namely: stock hi-cap, double action/striker fired, single stock, limited, carry optics, senior, super senior, and lady.
“This is a welcome event. Mahal namin ang aming mga baril dahil iyan an gaming ginagamit sa pagtupad ng aming tungkulin at iyan din ang ating ginagamit sa paglitas ng ating mga sarili,” said Provincial Director Redrico Maranan
PD Maranan also commended Governor Espino for his utmost support on the projects and events of the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office.
Also present in the event were Provincial Sports Management and Development Council (PSDMC) Executive Director Modesto Operania, PSDMC Deputy Director Marlon Domalanta, and Pangasinan Shooters’ Association, Inc. (PSAI) President Jose Roderick Javier.
