The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) during its online session on April 4, approved a resolution authorizing Governor Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III to ink partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) for the effective utilization of the latter’s grant for the implementation of the project, “Music Geography of Pangasinan: Folk and Traditional Songs.”
Said partnership between the Pangasinan Provincial Government and the NCCA will be signified through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement.
Authored by SP Member Margilou Orange D. Humilde-Verzosa, the resolution stated that the NCCA has approved the project which is expected to be a contributory factor to the development of the Philippine culture and arts.
“The project is supported by way of financial assistance in the amount of five hundred thousand pesos (P500,000.00) chargeable to the Program on Advancing the Value of Creative Excellence; Pagkamalikhain,” the resolution disclosed as it added that a MOA is necessary for the effective utilization of the fund to cover the expenses as stated in the project proposal and approved line item budget and schedule of activities chargeable under the program.
It can be recalled that cultural renaissance emerged in Pangasinan in 2007 during the tenure of former Congressman and Governor Amado “Ama” T. Espino, Jr. which was continued by the present administration through the stewardship of Gov. Pogi.
As such, the Espino administration initiated efforts to develop a comprehensive program on culture and arts to instill consciousness among Pangasinenses of the rich history and heritage of the province.
Some of the popular Pangasinan folk and traditional songs include “Malinac Lay Labi,” “Laoas Kan Pinabli,” “Oalay Manoc Con Taraz,” among others.
