The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) approved a resolution authorizing Governor Amado I. Espino III to enter and sign a partnership agreement with the Philippine Commission on Women for the Gender and Development (GAD) Local Learning Hub in the province.
Sponsored by SP Member Rosary Gracia P. Perez-Tababa, the resolution which was approved during the regular session of the provincial board on March 21, stated that “Section 36, Chapter VI of RA 9710, otherwise known as “Magna Carta of Women” provides that local government units shall adopt gender discrimination in their systems, structures, policies, programs, processes and procedures.”
As such, the resolution disclosed that “the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) has certified the Pangasinan Crisis Intervention Center (PCIC) as Gender and Development (GAD) Local Learning Hub (LLH) in recognition of the efforts of the Province in empowering women and providing programs promoting gender equality.”
The GAD Local Learning Hub aims to showcase innovative structures, processes and programs that can be sustained and improved by local government units.
PCIC is located within the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office compound as a “temporary shelter” that caters to victims and survivors of gender-based violence.
