Governor Amado I. Espino III issued Executive Order (EO) No. 0030-2022 on April 26 implementing a “temporary total ban on the entry of all chicken and poultry products from Region II” to Pangasinan.
Sent to all municipal/city mayors, municipal/city veterinary officers, municipal/city health officers, and concerned provincial offices, the EO stated that there were reported cases of Avian Influenza in the province of Isabela in Region II.
“Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Office No. 2 confirmed that around two hundred (200) chickens have died caused by the Avian Flu Virus or H5N1,” the EO stated.
Hence, research and diagnosis from the Integrated Laboratory in Tuguegarao City confirmed the cases of Avian Flu in the region.
“Following the said reported incidents of confirmed cases of Avian Flu, there is an urgent need to prohibit the entry of all chickens from Region 2 in the Province of Pangasinan to safeguard its poultry industry as well as to protect the general public from the ill effects of the Avian Flu disease,” the EO disclosed.
In addition to this, the Provincial Veterinarian Officers were deputized to cause the installation of quarantine checkpoints in the possible entry points of chicken shippers from Region 2, such as the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) and strategic road lines.
