9,000 Pangasinenses receive free medical services thru Abig Laman ed Barangay in 2020

January 8, 2021

A total of 9,121 Pangasinenses received free health services from the Provincial Government of Pangasinan through the Abig Laman ed Barangay Mini-Kalusugan Karaban program in 2020.

The Abig Laman ed Barangay, a modified version of the I Love Pangasinan Kalusugan Karaban (ILPKK), is a program to bring free health services to Pangasinenses especially those who are living in far-flung barangays.

The program is also another component of Governor Amado I. Espino III’s flagship recovery program, Abig Pangasinan.

“Ang Abig Laman ed Barangay ay isa sa mga component nung inilunsad ni Governor Amado I. Espino III na Abig Pangasinan. Ito ay isang pagbibigay serbisyo sa larangan ng kalusugan,” said Provincial Health Officer Anna Ma. Teresa de Guzman in an interview.

Through Abig Laman ed Barangay, Pangasinenses received free health services including: Medical and pediatric consultations, laboratory services (blood typing, blood sugar testing, urinalysis, cholesterol test, uric acid test, dengue consultation, and hemoglobin/hematocrit lab), Tuberculosis control program using the mobile chest x-ray, skin disease consultation, electrocardiogram test (ECG), and provision of potable water access.

Aside from the free health services, the Provincial Health Office also gives free vitamins and medicines to Pangasinenses during the Abig Laman ed Barangay.

Due to the pandemic, some services offered in the ILPKK are temporarily excluded such as the dental services, eye check-ups and ultrasound.

Dr. De Guzman said that the mobile health services will help address the needs of Pangasinenses for medical care especially that transportation is limited during the pandemic.

“Malaking bagay itong inilunsad ni Gov. Espino na Abig Pangasinan na isa sa component ang Abig Laman ed Barangay dahil sa ganitong panahon, kailangang kailangan ng mga kababayan natin, lalo na sa mga far-flung barangays, na hindi nakaka-access sa health centers dahil sa limitasyon ng transportation,” said Dr. De Guzman.

“Tayo mismo ang naglalapit ng serbisyo natin dito sa mga kababayan natin,” stated Dr. De Guzman pointing out that the Provincial Government is keen on providing quality health services to Pangasinenses for free.

Since its launching last August 29, 2020, the Abig Laman ed Barangay has visited 14 municipalities in Pangasinan, as follows: Anda, Burgos, Infanta, Bugallon, Lingayen, Mangatarem, Calasiao, Manaoag, Alcala, Bautista, Sison, Sto. Tomas, San Manuel, and Umingan.

Upcoming schedule of towns and cities to be visited by the Abig Laman ed Barangay this 2021 is being prepared.
