Pozorrubio : "pozo" and "rubbio"

The town Pozorrubio was formerly a sitio and later a Barrio of San Jacinto, Pangasinan. It was known as "Claris".

On June 19, 1968, the landowners of the Barrio Claris, Don Benito Magno, Domingo Aldana, Pedro Itliong, Bartolome Naniong, Bernardo Olarte, Pedro Salcedo, Juan Ancheta, Antonio Sabolboro, Jose Songcuan, Tobian Paragas, Francisco Callao and Baltazar Casiano y Salazar petitioned the Governor General of the Philippines, thru the "Alcalde Mayor" of Pangasinan to convert Barrio Claris into an independent town in order to minimize or stop robberies by the Igorots living in the nearby mountains and their Christian allies, to stop the smuggling of tobacco, to improve agriculture so as to increase tribute, and to enable the inhabitants to fulfill their religious duties.

On November 3, 1869, Governor General de la Torre approved the conversion of Barrio Claris into an independent town.

How it got its name Pozorrubio is an interesting story. During the survey of the new town, the surveyors happened to lunch in a nearby artesian well. They were, surprised to see that the water coming from well was ruby-like that they called in Spanish "pozo rubbio". Acting on the report of the surveyors, Governor General de la Torre approved the conversion of Barrio Claris into an independent town named Pozorrubio.
