Infanta, Pangasinan

Originally the town of Infanta was a barrio of the municipality of Santa Cruz, Zambales and named San Juan in honor of the Patron Saint of the barrio.

During the passing of the years, however, more and more people immigrated to this place and found it a good place to live in and so expanded in area and population until the inhabitants organized it into a regular municipality in the year 1878 and was christened San Felipe. The poblacion then was located in the barrio of Nañgalisan about six kilometers southeast of the present Poblacion; inhabited by the more progressive farmers who were then considered the local aristocrats and the town officials.

The people might have been industrious and have improved their living standards so that the opulence of their daily lives were then the envy of the other people who live not by the sweat of their brows but by prying on other people. These were known as the Tulisanes who lived in the nearby forests of the Zambales Mountains. These Tulisanes often go to the Poblacion to plunder and ransack the rich inhabitants. Because of these depredations, the town officials thought of transferring the Poblacion to its present site for security reason in 1892. The town was re-named Infanta. Present records do not show why it was named as such but some say that because this town was the off-spring of the municipality of Santa Cruz so it was called Infanta meaning "young."
