Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. welcomed Secretary Joel Villanueva of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as the latter visited the province on April 30 to see the development being undertaken for the Palarong Pambansa 2012.
Villanueva met with President Benigno S. Aquino III recently and one of the topics they discussed was the highly-regarded national sports event in the country that will be held in Pangasinan.
The President, no less, will be the guest of honor during the opening ceremonies on May 7 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) after he confirmed his arrival upon the governor’s invitation.
P-Noy even reminded the TESDA Secretary to be present during the event,
“Sabi nga ni P-Noy, ‘Sa May 7 dapat magkasama tayo doon.’ (P-Noy said, ‘On May 7, we should be there.”), he quipped.
The secretary said he has so much regard for Espino who was a colleague in the House of Representatives for six years.
Villanueva himself was a product of the Palarong Pambansa in 1992 held in Zamboanga as he became one of the representatives of the basketball team of the National Capital Region which eventually, won the games.
“Dugong Palaro po ako kaya alam ko po ang pakiramdam ng paghahanda para sa Palarong Pambansa (I have Palaro in my blood that is why I know the feeling of preparing for it.”), he said
Villanueva later expressed that the TESDA is able and more than willing to help Pangasinan improve further by producing more employment and livelihood opportunities. (PIO/Sheila H. Aquino)
